Julia Belle: The John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project, Vol. 2

We had so much fun recording the original John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project, Vol. 1, and have loved seeing the tunes being played online, at festivals, and around campfires—and were honored when the album was nominated for a GRAMMY! Now, it’s time to get ready for Vol. 2, with a whole new batch of previously unreleased fiddle tunes and a handful of beloved Hartford songs with a fresh new sound! Produced by Sharon Gilchrist, Megan Lynch Chowning, and Katie Harford Hogue, Vol. 2 includes some of the most beloved artists in the scene, including Rachel Baiman, Phoebe Hunt, Ginger Boatwright, Brittany Haas, Allison de Groot, Della Mae, The Price Sisters, Uncle Earl, and many more! We’re honored to further John’s legacy and continue to bring his music to old friends as well as new audiences.

The making of Julia Belle:

John Hartford left behind a powerful legacy for the bluegrass, old-time, and modern acoustic music communities, his name evoking respect and a fair amount of awe. He also left behind more than 2,000 fiddle tune charts in file cabinets under his desk, which his family began sifting through.

Thoughts on John Hartford and Julia Belle by Rachel Baiman

Rachel Baiman not only appeared on “Julia Belle: The John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project, Vol. 2,” but she also graciously wrote the liner notes, which were nominated for an IBMA Industry award in 2025!
